======================= The “piano trio” was a glorious
invention of the 19th-century,
consisting of violin, ’cello and
piano.
Often forgotten, the “guitar trio”
— which substitutes the guitar for
the piano — was just as popular
yet the music is virtually never
heard today.

            The Robidoux Trio is
one of the few ensembles
worldwide dedicated to this
tremendous repertoire.

            The concert will include
works by Giuliani, Handel,
DaFalla and others.

Maestro Evgeni Ratchev from
Brazil will be conducting a free
concert of the MU Chamber
Soloists from the University of
Missouri-Columbia.

The MU Chamber Soloists is a
unique ensemble in the tradition
of some of the world’s leading
orchestras. Like the Vienna
Philharmonic, London’s
Academy of St. Martin of the
Fields, and New York’s
Orpheus Chamber Orchestra,
the MU Chamber Soloists is self-
directed.

Founded over 15 years ago, their
original intent was to perform
seldom-heard compositions
outside the traditional orchestral
repertoire, but their activities have
extended far beyond that initial
objective. They have concertized,
and premiered numerous
works—particularly those of
contemporary South American
composers—under the baton of
Brazilian based guest conductor,
Maestro Evegni Ratchev.

The MU Chamber Soloists
choose their own repertoire, and
the group has no set conductor,
but invites various internationally
recognized musicians to lead and
coach the ensemble. In some
instances, they perform entirely
without a conductor, relying on
their own musical expertise for
interpretive, and historical
performance practice decisions
under the gentle guidance of MU
School of Music faculty.

The MU Chamber Soloists is
entirely extra-curricular, and
students receive no university
credit. The ensemble is open to
any MU student musician with
upper-level proficiency and
sincere commitment to the
common goals of this unique
ensemble.
